Scripture: Matthew 21:1–10
“Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” — Matthew 21:5 (NIV)
As Jesus approached Jerusalem, He rode not on a warhorse, but on a donkey. This act fulfilled prophecy (Zechariah 9:9) and sent a clear message: the King of Kings comes not with force, but with gentleness and humility.
The crowds were shouting "Hosanna!" and laying down palm branches, recognizing Him as the promised Savior. Yet many misunderstood what kind of king Jesus came to be. They hoped for a political liberator. But Jesus came to bring a deeper, eternal freedom—freedom from sin, reconciliation with God, and peace for the soul.
This passage invites us to reflect on the kind of king we look for in our lives. Are we expecting Jesus to fix our circumstances on our terms? Or are we ready to surrender to the humble King who rides in gently, offering not power, but peace?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for coming in humility, not demanding glory but offering grace. Help me to recognize You not just in the celebrations, but in the quiet, humble ways You move in my life. Teach me to follow You, not for what You can give, but for who You are—my King and Savior. Amen.
